Fetal Cell Line WI-38
WI-38 is a cell line derived from fetal lung tissue from a baby girl, who is now safe in the arms of Jesus, who was approximately 3 months gestational age at the time of her murder.
The remains of her body from the surgical abortion, which was preformed in Sweden, were shipped to the Wistar Institute (Hence the WI in WI-38) and the cell line was developed by Dr. Leonard Hayflick.

The modern era of scientific discovery at The Wistar Institute began under the leadership of Dr. Hilary Koprowski. During the 1950s, the Institute became a leader in vaccine research. This research was made possible by another Wistar discovery: a cell line known as WI-38. Developed by Leonard Hayflick, Ph.D., and Paul S. Moorhead, Ph.D., WI-38 is a strain of normal human cells that grows abundantly in the laboratory.

So Hayflick's team went back to create a new cell strain from scratch. They created WI-26, but the supplies were exhausted almost immediately because of the demand from scientists. They created WI-27 but had to dump hundreds of already-filled ampules when Moorhead discovered that one of the chromosones had an anomaly. After these two false starts, they finally created a cell line for the ages. "By this time," Hayflick said, "we knew what we wanted." They wanted a female embryo, to avoid any confusion with the previous, male strain. They wanted to know a good deal about the donors, because of the potential use of the cells in vaccine preparation. Although the pedigree was not sterling, it certainly offered more medical history than that of a monkey captured in the jungles of Southeast Asia. "The tissue came from a woman whose husband was a mariner," Hayflick said, "and he was apparently a drunkard and she didn't want more children, and so this was a surgical abortion. And that's how WI-38 was born."
"Up to this date," Hayflick told me in December 2000, "three quarters of a billion -- with a b-- people on this planet have received vaccines produced in my cell strain, WI-38, or its imitators... All of the rubella vaccine, the German measles vaccines, produced in the Western Hemisphere is produced in WI-38, and rubella vaccination is a prerequisite for school admission in every state in this country, so you can go figure out what the numbers are here. And I can tell you that I received phone calls from the White House during the reagan administration and during the first Bush administration from staffers saying, 'We finally tracked you down. We understanding that you are the one who developed the cell strain derived from an aborted human fetus, and we want to confirm something we simply cannot believe is going on. And that is that vaccines have been produced in those cells and are available for sale in the United States." And my reply was, 'Where the hell have you been for the past twenty years?'"

"At the end of the fifties, when Hayflick was developing WI-1, his first experimental HDCS, all polio vaccines were still being manufactured in monkey kidney tissue culture. This was largely because polio will only grow in primate cells, because monkeys are the cheapest available primates, and because the kidney is one of the largest discrete and easily removable organs. However, it was becoming widely realized that there were inherent problems with this tissue culture system. As Hayflick put it: "Monkey kidneys, as you will recall, were notorious for their content of unwanted viruses -- potentially dangerous viruses, maybe even [the simian precursor of] HIV, who knows?" This was, to say the least, a remarkable aside.
His human diploid cell strain, by contrast, was capable of growing every single human virus , and could be frozen at different passage levels and studied for years, if one wished, to ensure that it was free of adventitious viruses. Whereas, he said, every individual monkey kidney (or pair of kidneys) is "a universe unto itself [with] respect to virus contamination," a human diploid cell strain like WI-38 represents a single universe -- one that can be checked for viral surprises and that had proved itself, he claimed, to be an "absolutely clean" substrate. And, he went on proudly, "that single WI-38 universe can be used to produce all the world's human virus vaccines this century... theorietically 20 million metric tons, whereas one monkey kidney can only produce a few thousand doses."
