In Search Of Truth

One thing I have learned, about Truth, is that it is not found in the pages of books written by men. Yes, men can write truth, and what they say may be THE TRUTH. But, how do we actually know that what they have written, or what they have experienced, is actually THE TRUTH?

  1. Do we read more about what they say?
  2. Do we read other books, to see if others agree with them?
  3. Do we find opposing books/views that disagree with them?
  4. None of the above?

Well, the answer is #4. The only way to get truth, is to read the Word, in connection with the Holy Spirit, and prayer, etc. If you expose your mind to falsehoods, your mind will be conformed to oppose the truth when you are exposed to it. You find this among the body of Christ, in resistance of reading the OT, for example. They have been conditioned, by so many people, to believe that all they need is the NT, that the OT is just a bunch of stories to them. We also see this in the false signs and wonders crowd.

In fact, I would hope that a person is so grounded in the Word that they can't read something that is not truth, and blindly accept it. I would hope that they would not be swayed by every wind of doctrine. But, sadly, this is not true. The vast majority just believe what others say, that makes sense to them, because they don't want to spend the time actually learning how to discern truth. They would far rather read the "exciting" experiences, and doctrines of others, than to sit down and wash their minds in the Holy Word of God.

With that said, I have discussed many varied subjects, with many people. What I have found, is that those who have truly spent time in the Word, all come to the same conclusion on almost every subject. There are very few KEY doctrines that are not agreed upon, among those who have read the Word for countless hours, days, and years. But, those who read other men's works, more than they read the Word, I find, do not very often agree with those who have. Why is this? Because, they have subjected themselves to a view of truth, and not THE TRUTH.

There are also groups of people that are in error, and they also agree with one another.  One group may be into the signs and wonders.  Another group may be into doctrines that deny Christ.  No matter what the group, it may very well appear to them that they are right, simply because others agree with them.  So, just because what I said above is true, does not imply that we should be so arrogant as to just simply believe that we have the truth, without TRULY examining ourselves before the Lord.

From such people stem doctrines such as Universal salvation, annihilationism (no eternal torment), and a host of others that damn people to hell.

All of this saddens me deeply. I have a hard time discussing things with people who simply refuse the truth, and accept the lies, without even a blink of the eye. It becomes very burdensome.

  2. Yes William, it is very disheartening to meet people like that. That is the mindset of someone caught up in a cult. :( May God set him free.
