Judging Righteous Judgment

Disclaimer: This is not an in depth study of this topic, by any means.  In fact, this is really only the foundation, and many other things can be said.

So often, Christians judge after the flesh, rather than the Spirit. It is so common to judge by what we hear, what we see, and our other senses. The scriptures testify that Christ would come, and would not judge in this way, and He would judge righteous judgment.

Isaiah 11:3 (KJV)Open Link in New Window And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: 4But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

The bible teaches us that we need to judge righteous judgment. In other words, we need to judge, by hearing from the Lord, not by what we see, and what we hear. The only way we can do this, is work towards walking like Yashua walked. Part of that includes not judging, except by what we hear from God. In many cases, the Pharisees and Sadducees both judged unrighteous judgment against Yashua. In doing so, Yashua simply replied with telling them that they were not judging righteous judgment. It is so good that these were written down for our instruction.

John 5:30 (KJV)Open Link in New Window I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

John 7:24 (KJV)Open Link in New Window Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

When writing 1 Corinthians 4Open Link in New Window, Paul wrote about judging. At the beginning, he spoke primarily about judging righteous judgment, by waiting to hear what the Lord said on the matter.

1 Corinthians 4:3-5 (KJV)Open Link in New Window But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. 4For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. 5Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

There is very much a danger when not walking by the Spirit in our judgments. We will condemn those who God Himself is not going to condemn. We see an example of this in John 8:1-11Open Link in New Window, where Yashua did not condemn the woman caught in the very act of adultery. Today, we would immediately condemn her, and judge her as unfit for the kingdom of God. Thank God that He judges righteous judgment.

Keep in mind that I haven't covered every aspect of this topic, and I may write more at a later date. But, I believe I have covered the most important aspect, that is clearly ignored by the church of the day.
