Daniel 12 – Commentary

Again, another Daniel commentary, for chapter 12.

Daniel 12:1 (KJV)Open Link in New Window And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

If you read v1 in context with 11:45, you will see that “to that same time” is referencing the time of the end when the anti-Christ is destroyed in 11:45. Then “at that time” is referencing the time of the end as well, when we shall be delivered, those who are written in the book of life. The words “time of trouble” is referencing the tribulation, and continues “to that same time” referenced in 11:45.

Daniel 12:2 (KJV)Open Link in New WindowAnd many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

In v2 we see described the resurrection, the first and the second. Although it does describe the first and the second resurrection, we know they don’t happen at the same time, because Revelation talks about the first one being just before the thousand year reign, and the second one after the thousand year reign. That does not make this scripture null or void, but just compliments it, because this scripture is not saying that the two resurrections are specifically at the exact same time.

Daniel 12:3 (KJV)Open Link in New Window And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

In Matthew 13:43Open Link in New Window, Yashua talks about the righteous shining like the sun, in the kingdom of their father. This describes the exact same thing that Yashua was saying in Matthew 13:43Open Link in New Window.

Daniel 12:4 (KJV)Open Link in New Window But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Knowledge has definitely been increased. The time of the end is definitely near. And I believe these things are beginning to be unsealed.

Daniel 12:5-7 (KJV)Open Link in New Window Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river. 6And one said to the man (Yashua?) clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? 7And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

Revelation 12:6Open Link in New Window and Revelation 12:14Open Link in New Window are where the woman goes into the wilderness for 3.5 years, which is a symbol of us, the bride of Christ.I believe that these last few verses show Yashua telling Daniel that these things will be finished when we have experienced 3.5 years of really tough times at the end of the tribulation, “and when he” (the anti-Christ) shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people”. This is also referenced in Revelation a couple of times. I believe that “1260 days” in Revelation 12:6Open Link in New Window, “time, and times, and half a time” in Revelation 12:14Open Link in New Window, “time, times, and an half” in Daniel 12:7Open Link in New Window, and “time and times and the dividing of time” in Daniel 7:25Open Link in New Window are all 3.5 years, and are all referencing the same period of time; specifically the last half of the tribulation.

Daniel 12:8-9 (KJV)Open Link in New Window And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? 9And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Out of all the references to being sealed, the phrase “closed up and sealed” undoubtedly means it becomes a secret that no one can understand until the time of the end.

Daniel 12:10 (KJV)Open Link in New Window 10Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

We are meant to understand, the righteous are supposed to understand. I believe we will understand in a lot more fullness when the Lord completely unlocks these mysteries.

Daniel 12:11 (KJV)Open Link in New Window And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Zechariah 13:6Open Link in New Window talks about Yashua being pierced in the hands in the house of His friends. Yashua also said in Matthew 23:39Open Link in New Window and Luke 13:35Open Link in New Window that He would not return, until the Jews call out “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord”.The sacrifice is taken away sometime between the start of the seven year tribulation, and somewhere near the end. There aren’t any scriptures that clearly indicate it’s directly in the middle, close to the middle, close to the end, etc. It appears to be some time before the middle of the tribulation because 1290 days is 3.5 years plus one month. I believe the Lord will come very shortly after the anti-Christ exalts himself in the temple, because this will be the final straw that God will not allow, and will cause the Jews to call out for their true God, whom they have pierced.

Daniel 12:12 (KJV)Open Link in New Window Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

This is when Yashua will come back. Seeing that we don’t know for sure when the direct middle of the tribulation is, and we don’t know if days (G3117) is literal or figurative from sunset to sunset, we won’t know when this 1335 days will be completed. I believe the core of our being will feel the presence of His return as it gets closer though. Also, to my knowledge, there isn’t a single scripture that tells us that the tribulation actually starts at a certain event, although people proclaim that it begins with the covenant of peace, according to Daniel 9:27Open Link in New Window.

Daniel 12:13 (KJV)Open Link in New Window But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
