Thousand Year Reign/Binding of Satan

Satan Is Not Bound

2 Corinthians 2:10-12Open Link in New Window To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; 11Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 12Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

If Satan has already been bound, and is unable to deceive us, then there's no need to war against him, or be aware of his devices. This concept that some bring forth is clearly a deception of Satan. We are all susceptible to being deceived by him. He (Satan) wants you to believe that he's already bound. Because then, you aren't worried about his devices, and give no heed to Paul’s warning.

It may not be readily apparent, but to say that Satan has already been bound, fulfilling Revelation 20Open Link in New Window is to remove the 1000 year reign of Christ from the book of Revelation. Some would have you believe that the 1000 year reign is totally symbolic, and is already occurring. They may also say that Satan was bound at the cross, thereby helping to prove that the 1000 year reign is already in progress. This is dangerously close to what is written in Revelation, as something NOT TO DO. Part of the reason that this book MUST be preserved is because it is there to keep us out of deception about what is going to happen during the last days here on earth. Therefore, God does not want us tampering with it.

Revelation 20:18Open Link in New Window For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

On the one hand, if we add to the book of Revelation, we can end up suffering the plagues, and still be saved. But, if we dare to remove from it, God will remove our names from the book of life.

Two Resurrections

In order to prove further, that the thousand year reign has not yet begun, and to show that it can only begin after Christ's return, we will proceed to show that there are only two resurrections. The resurrection of the righteous, unto eternal life, and the resurrection of the damned, unto eternal damnation.

There are only two resurrections. There’s a resurrection of those that are in Christ, and one of those that are not in Christ. Let’s study Revelation 20:4-6Open Link in New Window to see how the bible shows that there are only two resurrections.

Revelation 20:4-6Open Link in New Window (KJV) And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection (those that reign with Christ). 6Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years (those that had their part in the first resurrection shall reign with Christ for 1000 years).

In verse five it states that the rest of the dead don’t get resurrected until after the thousand year reign. Taking that verse into context, with verse four; we see that the first resurrection is of those that were in Christ, for they lived and reigned with Him for a thousand years. With that said, it’s apparent that the second resurrection is after the thousand year reign.

There are other places in scripture that speak of everlasting life, and everlasting separation from the presence of God. One such place is Daniel 12Open Link in New Window.

Daniel 12:1-3 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 2And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Rapture and 1st Resurrection Coupling

The scriptures make it very clear that the second coming, and the first resurrection are tightly coupled together. To my knowledge, there is no way to separate them by scriptural proof. Below, I show by scripture that this is the case.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17Open Link in New Window (KJV) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven (the second coming) with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first (the first resurrection): 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

This is of course in reference to Christ’s second coming, and the first resurrection together.

So, considering that the first resurrection has not yet happened, we can’t possibly be in the thousand year reign, whether it be a symbolic thousand year reign, or a figurative one.

However, given that God created the earth in six days, and rested on the seventh. As Peter said, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. God always does things in types and shadows. Therefore, it makes sense that the earth would be here for 6000 years, and we will rest on the 7th millennium.
