Deity of Christ Proofing
All true Christians believe in the Messiah Yashua (Jesus), and His deity, otherwise known as divinity of Jesus, or the nature of Jesus, as well. We all know, undeniably that without acknowledging the Son as Yahweh come in the flesh, we cannot be saved. But, all too often, we are unable to prove this to others, especially Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses. Today I would like to share some scriptures that I have learned that prove, undeniably, that Yashua is in fact God come in the flesh.
When talking with Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses, I always like to begin with Revelation 1
. They all know that Christ is speaking in chapter 1, so that's a good foundation for proving that He is the Almighty, the Everlasting Father, etc.
First, we must understand that Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Yashua created everything, as He was the first creature that God created. That's how they explain away scriptures that say that He created everything.
So, we begin with Revelation 1v8.
Revelation 1v8 (KJV) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
We make sure that they agree that this verse is in fact Yashua speaking. They will of course agree, unless they've changed their doctrine once again, since last time I spoke with them. Now, it seems almost silly to proceed any further, if they agree that this is Yashua speaking. Mainly because it states straight out that He is the ALMIGHTY. However, they will not see this because they are blind. Now that we have them in agreement that this is in fact Yashua, we turn to Isaiah 41v4, and Isaiah 44v6.
Isaiah 41v4 (KJV) Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.
Isaiah 44v6 (KJV) Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Both of the scriptures above show that He is the first and the last, and there is no other. But, sometimes that still not good enough for those that are blind, and indoctrinated. So, in order to really get it across, we should look at some really blatant prophecies. I mean there are some, such as Isaiah 9v6, which is clearly in reference to the Messiah, and seems to prove that He is God. However, they could just argue that Yashua is almighty, just not like God is. But, the next few scriptures will prove, undeniably, that God Himself has declared, prophetically, that He would come and redeem us. Those scriptures are Zechariah 11v12-13 and Matthew 27v3-10, Zechariah 12v10, and John 19v37.
Zechariah 11v12-13 (KJV) And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. 13And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
Matthew 27v3-10 (KJV) Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. 7And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. 9Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value 10And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
The key to conveying what these scriptures are talking about, is the context. If you read the context, before and after Zechariah 11v12-13, you will see that it is Yahweh speaking, and therefore He is saying that the thirty pieces of silver was what HE was priced at.
Zechariah 12v10 (KJV) And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon ME whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
John 19v37 (KJV) And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
Now, we'll look at Revelation 1v11-15, and Daniel 7v9, where we have a very clear description of what Yashua actually looks like. Again, it's best to have them agree that v11 is in fact in reference to Yashua. Usually, they won't have a problem agreeing with that. In fact, it's best to get them to agree to 1v8 and 1v11, before you even get started. That way they can't, after they've been proven wrong, disagree with 1v11.
Revelation 1v11-15 (KJV) Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. 12And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
Daniel 7v9 (KJV) I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
So, the description of Yashua matches up with the description of the Ancient of Days. If He's not God, how does that work?
If we look at the whole context of Revelation 1
, we see in Revelation 1:8
where Jesus says he is the almighty. Then we have Him saying he is the alpha and omega, the first and the last, which God Almighty also claims in Isaiah 41:4
and Isaiah 44:6
. He also makes clear that He is in fact Jesus, and not some other entity, by saying that He was dead, and now lives, in Revelation 1:18
